Airbnb Gets New Accessibility Filters
Airbnb is making information technology a lot easier for people with disabilities to find attainable lodging that will piece of work for their needs.
The company on Friday announced 21 new accessibility filters for the platform, which allow people search for listings with features like step-free access, wide doorways and hallways, an elevator, a flat path to the front end door, wide driveway, well-lit path to the archway, and more. Previously, guests were simply able to search for "wheelchair accessible" listings, so this is a major comeback.
The other new filters will let yous search for digs offering an "accessible-height" toilet and bed; wide clearance to the bed, shower, and toilet; a roll-in shower with a chair; a bathtub with a shower chair, fixed take hold of confined for the shower and toilet, a handheld shower head, and a disabled parking spot.
"Equally a person with disabilities and passionate traveler, I am hugely excited by the changes we're making at Airbnb," the company'south Accessibility Production and Program Manager, Srin Madipalli, said in a argument. "With these new filters, we are making it easier for everyone to share their adapted homes with travelers with disabilities around the world. Our mission is to enable anyone to belong anywhere, regardless of disability."
Airbnb said it plans to work with guests and hosts to ensure these new filters offer useful, accurate information. Going forwards, the company plans to "better and aggrandize the filters to ensure they back up every bit many travelers as possible."
Meanwhile, Google Maps now offers wheelchair-accessible public transportation routes for several major cities, including London, New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Boston, and Sydney.
